UFO sighting Mon Sep 15: "Hello, emergency, which service do you require please?"
... "Er, yes, I'd like to report a UFO sighting, earlier this evening. I was walking my dog outside Broadhempston about 8 pm when I suddenly saw a large saucer-shaped object on top of a hill with one bright white light, a smaller white light and two or three orange lights ... "
UFO sighting Mon Sep 15th: "And then the white light ...
... glowed VERY brightly as though it was about to take off ... then I got scared and ran off! You do believe me, don't you?" ...

Monks Retreat Sep 15: Now this REALLY is spooky ... 'Gollum' video
This vid clip was taken with ONLY me around ... and I didn't mention it to ANYONE. At the naming of Rod later on in the pub, Bubbles' offering was 'Gollum' !! The odds of this video clip and him mentioning the name in the same evening are astronomical - and I know a thing or two about odds ... a shiver went through me when Bubbles shouted the name out ...
Monks Retreat Sep 15: Headed them off at the pass - again ... video
But of course, we hadn't done this one at all, the start was the only 'same' bit ... again, apologies to Archangel, but you know whatawally I am!
STOP PRESS!
Just in case some of you were wondering where Forrest Stump was on Monday, newly named Hang Loose informed me that Forrest has injured his back at work and couldn't make the Monks Retreat as a result. We all wish you speedy recovery old son.
Bit tired now ...
Been assembling my running machine most of the afternoon and installing software ... but I do have a short postscript on proceedings from the Monks Retreat ... My apologies to Fukarwi and Archangel ... it was virgin territory and it took me further than I anticipated on going before adjourning to the bar ... the moto-cross track was brilliant, as observed by a group of us high up on the ridge ... you all looked like you were having so much fun down there, wheeling and counter wheeling in utter confusion with cries of : "On you!" ringing out from all quarters ... a triumph Fukarwi, a triumph on your virgin lay ... ever so well done, the hares ... ... It's strange, isn't it, when you try your hardest for a downdown, zilcho ... but tonight I had shouted out - as wallies do - "I know a short-cut back to the pub!" A trusting little band had followed ... then realising that perhaps I didn't after all ... I had turned off my headlamp, vaulted a barbed wire fence and legged it ... I thought that was the end of it until returning to the Monks Retreat, Wickdipper had glowered at me and said: "Where have you been, they've been looking for you!" ... Oh-oh ... and apparently Teapot wasn't best pleased when he eventually got back ... I hadn't had a DD for so long that it was a bit of a struggle ... well done Rent Boy for taking the vid clip ... All in all, an excellent night was had by one and all ...

Another battle fought all day
... was with the new, 'improved' Sitemeter ... Dad, pay attention, you'll like this, not a lot ... Sitemeter closed down all Saturday to bring in a new 'whizzkid' version ... I logged onto it eagerly at lunchtime to find ... a disaster! I'll tell you later, Winfield, but to cut to the chase, I sent e-mail after e-mail to the support team, complaining bitterly at the new system AND, it seems I wasn't the only one as ... they are NOW in the process of REVERTING back to the former program!! Hopefully, the Whizzkid who invented the crap is now back unemployed ... yippeee!
Here's the notice currently on Sitemeter:
We are in the process of rolling back SiteMeter to the former system. SiteMeter should be back online soon. Please check back later. Sorry for inconvenience. Sincerely, SiteMeter Support Team. |
Attack of the Widgets ll (2008)
That particular widget has just been removed kicking and screaming ... incredibly, it kept regenerating changes to its HTML code as fast as I changed it - never seen a widget that sophisticated before ... here's to that widget, it was so blue ...
Attack of the Widgets (2008) or ...
... The Widgets Strike Back (2008) ... or was it 'Beware the Ides of Widgets' ? Whatever it was, I've been fighting them off most of the afternoon ... I had to forcibly explain to my widgets that I Am Widgetmaster (2008) and not the other way round. It might have been something to do with my insisting on posting and reposting the Belinda Carlisle videos - Heaven is a Place and Circle in the Sand ... they stay up for a few hours and then are 'no longer available' which makes no sense as I get them from Youtube anyway, so if the copyrighters object, they should remove them from source. Sigh. Marked the widget's card now and back in control ... I think ...
I learnt a thing or two about VHS tapes
To get a seized up VHS tape unseized is tricky but how about if the tape is also sticky and nearly 20 years old? I had tried to get this tape playing about 15 years ago and it didn't work then. However, coming across the tape during a clearout today, I thought 'What have I got to lose?' and took out the 5 securing screws and lifted the 2 spool assembly off its sprockets. Then laboriously, I rewound the whole tape by hand, avoiding touching the oxide film or twisting it. Then I put the carefully reassembled tape together and then baked it in the oven on gas mark 4 for 5 minutes with the door ajar. Then I wound and rewound the tape twice (important) and with bated breath, pressed 'Play' on the video recorder ... for a couple of minutes nothing happened as the auto tracking tried to figure out this ancient tape. Then a flicker of colour and then BINGO! it played. Just reward for my three and a half hours of toil. And at least four of you liked it: Beep Beep, Little Horace, Nick and Emily. The rest of you, unlucky!
